Sustainable Development
Team Leader
Chris Riddle, Ohio Lake Erie Commission
Background
Since local governments have a large influence on land use decisions in Ohio, it is vital that they be involved in watershed planning and implementation. Local governments can help set the tone for development and conservation priorities, and through documents such as Comprehensive Plans. Sustainable Development topics range from the spatial decisions of where communities grow, to the practices used to protect the natural landscape, to the selection of materials and energy sources that allow for long-term success, both environmentally and economically.
